President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on creating a command of long-range influence on Russia within the Armed Forces. He also announced the creation of the Joint Rapid Response Forces, which are to become a new component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening video address on July 10.
The new command is to concentrate all available resources in order to “more significantly reduce Russia’s war potential”.
“Today I signed a decree on creating a special command within the Armed Forces — a command of long-range, in fact, global influence on Russia for this war”, the president said.
Zelenskyy noted that the commander in this area will be “strong and certainly as experienced as possible”.
The president also announced the upcoming transformation of the assault troops. According to him, there are issues and problems that need to be resolved, above all in the attitude toward people. Zelenskyy added that law enforcement agencies are already taking procedural steps, and there will also be changes at the level of assault troops management.
In addition, the president signed a decree on the creation of the Joint Rapid Response Forces.
“This should be a new component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will combine the combat capability of assault troops, the necessary unmanned component, the necessary artillery component and other means for the most rapid response at the front”, Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, this component should be modern, assault-oriented and technological. Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Voloshyn is to become commander of the Joint Rapid Response Forces. Zelenskyy said he had already spoken with him and designated him for this task.
“Brigadier General Voloshyn, commander of the 8th Air Assault Forces Corps, is capable of ensuring the further development of the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this area”, the statement says.
