President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first official visit to Syria and held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus. The leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East and prospects for its stabilization.
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the sides agreed to work together to enhance security and development of their societies. They also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and opportunities for exchanging military and security experience.
“I am grateful for the support. There is strong interest in exchanging military and security experience,” Zelenskyy said.
They also discussed Ukraine’s role as a supplier of food and joint opportunities to strengthen food security in the region. The Ukrainian president emphasized readiness to cooperate in the fields of energy and infrastructure.
In addition to bilateral talks, a trilateral meeting in the Ukraine–Syria–Turkey format was held. The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in security and trade.
This was the second meeting between Zelenskyy and al-Sharaa. The first took place in September 2025 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where a joint communiqué on restoring diplomatic relations was signed.
