Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous for civilian aviation amid intensified military activity. Ukraine has therefore notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and urged airlines and governments to avoid flights over Russia.
This was reported by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
“Russia is deliberately ignoring the existing risks caused by its aggression against Ukraine, which has already led to several incidents in recent years,” the statement said.
According to Sybiha, Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous amid a sharp escalation in Russian attacks against Ukraine.
“It is our responsible decision to inform ICAO, all airlines and governments of the need to exercise caution, even if Russia refuses to fulfill its responsibility to inform them,” the foreign minister said.
He added that Ukraine aims to prevent unintended incidents.
“The war is coming home to Russia. Ukraine is exercising its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” Sybiha stressed.
