On February 3, Russia violated agreements between the US and participants in the negotiation process to refrain from striking energy and critical infrastructure. Ukraine awaits the response of the United States and its partners to Russia’s actions.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 3.

“There was a request from the President of the United States to refrain from strikes on energy and critical infrastructure — you know about this — during the meetings of our negotiating teams. The American president said that strikes should be refrained from for a week. This is very important, it was an important decision. In fact, it began on Friday night, and tonight, in our opinion, the Russians broke their promise,” the president said.

Zelenskyy noted that either Russia considers a week to be shorter than seven days, or it is deliberately betting on war, waiting for the coldest days of this winter, when the temperature in a significant part of Ukraine has dropped below minus 20 degrees.

According to him, today’s attack was a record in terms of the use of ballistic weapons. Russia launched 28 cruise missiles, as well as 43 missiles of various types, which approach their targets along a ballistic trajectory and can only be intercepted by Patriot systems.

“What Russia is doing always clearly indicates Russia’s intentions. We believe that this Russian strike truly violates what the American side agreed to, and there must be consequences for this. Everyone can see the weather – the most difficult days, the coldest days of this winter are now, and it is precisely the strikes on infrastructure, primarily on energy, to deprive people of electricity, heating, to deprive people of warmth and cause blackouts – this is Russia’s true attitude to everything that is happening,” Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine plans to contact the American side regarding this situation and expects that its partners will not remain on the sidelines. Zelenskyy also noted that Patriot systems and missiles are critically needed to counter ballistic threats, and that supplies must be delivered as quickly as possible.
