President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with Latvia’s new Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs. Following the talks, the parties signed a Drone Deal and discussed defense cooperation and sanctions pressure on Russia.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on June 9.

The signed Drone Deal provides for cooperation in the field of unmanned technologies and joint production.

“These are concrete steps to strengthen our common defense and co-production. It is also important that this is Ukraine’s expertise and experience for strengthening our partners,” Zelenskyy said.

This is already the sixth agreement of this kind that Ukraine has signed with partners. The Drone Deal opens many opportunities for Ukraine and Latvia in joint production, primarily in cooperation for defense, which is needed amid all security challenges.

The president emphasized that Ukraine is developing systematic cooperation with countries that have consistently supported it throughout the war with Russia.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy also informed the Latvian prime minister about the needs of Ukraine’s air defense system. The parties separately discussed sanctions policy toward Russia, including strengthening restrictions against Russia’s shadow fleet.

“Ukraine is interested in ensuring that every region of Europe has sufficient protection against Russian threats,” the president stressed.

Zelenskyy also thanked Latvia for its support of Ukraine and noted the level of relations between the two countries during the war.
