Today is the Day of Mourning in Ukraine for those killed in Kryvyi Rih

Today, 6 April, is a day of mourning across the country for those killed in Kryvyi Rih as a result of a Russian missile strike on a residential area.

As a result of the arrival of the Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile, 74 people were injured. The missile killed 18 Ukrainians, including nine children. Nine little lives that should have been laughing, dreaming, building their lives.

Residents of Kryvyi Rih continue to bring flowers and toys to the site of the attack, to the playground, reports Suspilne Dnipro.

Local residents come to the site of the attack to honour the memory of the children and adults who died.

The youngest victim was 3 years old. The boy’s name was Tymofii.

His grandfather Vitalii says his grandson was playing on the playground with his grandmother. They were approaching the entrance when the explosion occurred.

‘We were going home, and he was killed near the entrance. My grandmother is in hospital, she had two surgeries. They said there was no longer a threat to her life. My grandson was a very energetic child, he loved space and everything related to it. He was already counting in English at the age of three. He was very fond of animals and knew all the planets. He was the only child of his parents. I lost the meaning of life, he was the dearest person to me,’ he said.

An explosion occurred in Kryvyi Rih on 4 April at around 18:50. Russian troops attacked the centre of a residential neighbourhood with an Iskander cluster munition. 18 people were killed, including nine children. More than 70 residents were injured.

The attack damaged nearly two dozen apartment buildings, six educational institutions, a restaurant, and more than 30 vehicles.

On 7, 8, and 9 April, Kryvyi Rih declared days of mourning for those killed in the Russian attacks on the city, said Vilkul, head of the local Defence Council.
