Another 1,200 bodies of victims have been returned to Ukraine, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
This was the next stage of repatriation, which took place within the framework of the agreements reached in Istanbul. In the near future, law enforcement agencies, together with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations and identification of the bodies.
The event was made possible thanks to the coordinated work of a number of institutions, including the Coordination Headquarters, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the State Emergency Service, and other security and defence agencies.
The Coordination Headquarters thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance, as well as the personnel of the Central Administration of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Centre for the Provision of Measures, who organised the transportation and transfer of the bodies to specialised state institutions.
