Ukrainian, U.S. and Russian delegations held a trilateral conversation in the United Arab Emirates. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian representatives are in the UAE and report to him almost every hour on the progress of the talks. He stressed that such trilateral formats have not taken place for a long time and that the meeting is important.
The sides are discussing the parameters for ending the war. Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian delegation expects at least some answers from Russia and, most importantly, Russia’s readiness to end the war it started. Ukraine’s positions are clear, he added, and the framework for dialogue had been set in advance.
The president said the delegation remains in constant contact, with Rustem Umerov, Kyrylo Budanov, Davyd Arakhamia and Serhii Kyslytsia involved in the talks. General Hnatov, the Chief of the General Staff, and HUR representative Skibitskyi are expected to join the negotiations on Friday.
Zelenskyy also noted that it is too early to draw conclusions about the substance of the talks. He said the outcome would become clearer after the discussions continue, adding that ending the war requires not only Ukraine’s desire but also a similar willingness from Russia.
