Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open after winning her third-round match. The match in Melbourne lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes.
According to Champion, in the third round of the Australian Open Svitolina defeated Russia’s Diana Shnaider 7:6(4), 6:3. The match was played on January 23 on the hard courts in Melbourne.
The players had not faced each other before. In the next round, the Ukrainian will play the winner of the match between Elena Gabriela Ruse and Mirra Andreeva.
The 31-year-old from Odesa reached the Australian Open round of 16 for the sixth time in her career and has done so 21 times overall at Grand Slam tournaments. Last season, Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
Elina Svitolina is the only Ukrainian player to have reached the second round of the Australian Open in the women’s singles draw, after defeating Spain’s Cristina Bucsa. In the second round, the Ukrainian overcame Poland’s Linda Klimovicova.
