On 26 July, Russian troops launched a combined attack on the residential area of the Shostka community in Sumy region. The shelling caused a massive fire, with flames engulfing local residents’ homes.
According to the State Emergency Service, despite the high fire load, firefighters managed to localise all sources of ignition. During the rescue operation, SES employees rescued a person from the damaged building who was unable to escape on their own.
Several local residents were injured as a result of the blast wave. Private and apartment buildings, as well as infrastructure facilities, suffered significant damage. Work to eliminate the consequences of the attack is ongoing.
