        Series of drone attacks on Russia: explosions in Ryazan, casualties in Samara and Penza regions

        Russian Telegram channels report a massive drone attack on several regions of Russia on the night and morning of 2 August. In particular, explosions were heard in Ryazan, Samara, Penza, as well as in the Lipetsk, Voronezh and Rostov regions.

        In Ryazan, according to local public sources, explosions were heard near the Victoria Plaza shopping centre. A fire broke out in one of the nearby buildings. The Mash channel claims that the attack damaged a facility, probably an oil refinery. Ryazan Region Governor Pavel Malkov confirmed that debris from the drone fell on the territory of the facility. The exact name of the facility has not been disclosed.

        In Penza, drones attacked the Elektropribor factory. According to Telegram channels, five explosions were heard over the city. Governor Oleg Melnichenko reported the death of one woman and two wounded. Russian sources suggest that the target was a factory that manufactures air defence control systems.

        In the Samara region, according to Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, drones attacked an industrial facility in Novokuybyshevsk. Local sources report a fire at the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery. Restrictions on mobile internet have been imposed in the region, and the Samara airport has been temporarily closed.

        Fedorishchev also reported that an elderly man was killed by falling debris from a drone in the Kuybyshevsky district of Samara. His country house caught fire after the explosion.

        In the Rostov region, Governor Yuri Slyusar reported the death of an employee of one of the enterprises in the village of Vuglerodovskoye. According to him, drones were shot down over seven districts of the region, but the debris caused fires.

        According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, on 2 August, air defences allegedly shot down 291 Ukrainian drones.
