Law enforcers detained a Russian intelligence agent, who turned out to be a lieutenant colonel, commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, the traitor was recruited before the outbreak of a full-scale war.

“The SBU, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, detained a Russian GRU mole who was passing plans for special operations of the Defense Forces behind enemy lines to the Nazis,” the statement said.

In the spring of 2024, he was remotely “activated” by a Russian GRU officer and assigned a task: to transmit plans for combat operations of the Defense Forces behind enemy lines.

In particular, the Russians were interested in sabotage and reconnaissance raids by Ukrainian special forces in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimean regions.

The agent, using his official position, received information about the routes of movement of the Defense Forces units, their weapons and designated targets.

The Russian occupiers planned to use this data to destroy Ukrainian special forces both on the front line and in the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine.

In addition, the agent passed on information about other units of the Ukrainian military to the Russian curator. According to the investigation, he was recruited by the Russian military intelligence through his acquaintances in Russia, with whom he kept in constant contact.

During the searches, the SBU found means of secrecy, computer equipment, a mobile phone and data storage devices.

The offender is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
