Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have identified and detained two agents of Russia’s FSB who were directing missile strikes on the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The SBU reported this on Monday.

The detainees operated in different regions but shared the same handler from the Russian intelligence service. Their main task was to locate Ukrainian air defense positions and temporary deployment sites of the Defense Forces.
Among those exposed is the head of security at one of Dnipro’s leading universities, who was recruited by the FSB through a relative living in Russia and working for the Russian intelligence service. To carry out the assignments, he enlisted an acquaintance — the head of a water supply department in Huliaipole, Zaporizhzhia region.
During air raids, the agents drove around in their own cars, recording the work of Ukrainian air defense and collecting coordinates of potential targets. They also covertly questioned acquaintances to obtain information about the deployment of Ukrainian troops and later verified the received data.
SBU officers detained both individuals and seized evidence of their cooperation with the Russian special service. The suspects were charged under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed by a group of persons under martial law.
The detainees are being held in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
