On the night of 12 July, Russian troops launched combined strikes on western Ukraine, causing numerous fires, destruction of civilian infrastructure and human casualties.
Lutsk
In Lutsk, a single-storey residential building caught fire as a result of the night attack. Firefighters extinguished the fire at 6:08 a.m. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties.
Lviv region
In the Lviv region, damage to civilian infrastructure and several fires were reported, particularly in the city of Lviv. According to Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, several buildings were damaged, including residential buildings and a kindergarten, many windows were broken, and dozens of cars were damaged. In the Zaliznychny district of Lviv, the roof of a non-residential building was on fire.
The head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maxim Kozytskyi, specified that two industrial facilities were damaged in Lviv, where fires also broke out. The fires were extinguished by 7:00 a.m., but rescue units continue to work on site. Four people were injured: three were treated on site, and one man was hospitalised.
Chernivtsi and the region
In Chernivtsi, two people were killed as a result of strikes by Shahed drones and a rocket: a 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man. Four more were seriously injured, one of whom is in critical condition. In addition, ten people suffered minor injuries.
The attack damaged residential buildings, shops, administrative buildings and cars. In the Storozhynets community, a drone hit a private house and a car, causing destruction.
Poland’s reaction
Due to the activity of Russian aircraft striking western Ukraine, the Polish and allied air forces scrambled fighter jets. According to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, fighter jet pairs were activated, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were put on high alert.
