On the night of September 5, Russian forces deliberately attacked Kyiv and Boryspil airports. It was the first such attack in a long time and may have been Russia’s response to discussions about the possibility of the US side arriving in Ukraine by air.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy said the discussions concerned preparations for the US side to travel by plane and land at either Kyiv Airport or Boryspil Airport. The president described the overnight strikes by Russian-Iranian Shahed drones as a response to American diplomacy.
“We have recorded this Russian step and next week will adjust our operation regarding Russian airspace accordingly, which has become dangerous due to the presence of drones and missiles in the sky. Of course, there are no threats to diplomacy from our side and there will be none,” the president said.
The president also said that overnight Russian forces struck a civilian enterprise in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region. Four people were killed and five others were injured.
Residential buildings were also damaged during the overnight Russian attack in Kherson, Boryspil and Kharkiv region. In Sumy and Mykolaiv, drones struck shopping centers.
“Ukraine is interested in bringing peace closer. Russia will be held accountable for what it is doing,” Zelenskyy concluded.
