The German company Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with the latest systems to counter Russian drones later this year. The contract, worth hundreds of millions of euros, will be signed on Wednesday at the DSEI defense exhibition in London.
This was announced by Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, according to ZDF.
Skyranger systems are mobile air defense installations that can be mounted on Leopard tanks. Each system is capable of protecting an area of four by four kilometers, completely destroying enemy drones.
Rheinmetall is actively expanding its activities: the number of employees has already grown to 40,000, and within three years, the company plans to employ 70,000 people. Rheinmetall’s shares have risen by 1,700% since the start of the war in Ukraine. Papperger is confident that by 2029, Germany will be able to defend itself against a possible attack on NATO countries.
Despite accusations of an aggressive expansion strategy, Papperger said the company is committed to peace and the development of defense capabilities to support security in Europe.
