Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he agrees with the proposal to end hostilities, but it must lead to ‘long-term peace’.

He said this during a joint press conference with Alexander Lukashenko.

‘We agree with the proposal to end hostilities. But we assume that this cessation should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis,’ Putin said when asked how he assessed the US proposal for a ceasefire.

‘We are in favour, but there are nuances,’ Putin added. – ‘How will the situation develop on the 2,000-kilometre-long contact line? Who will determine where and who violated the possible ceasefire? During these 30 days, will Ukraine continue to be supplied with weapons, will mobilisation continue? How will the issue of verification be resolved, how will we be guaranteed that nothing of the sort will happen?’

According to Putin, all of these issues need to be discussed, including, possibly, with US President Donald Trump.

‘The idea itself is correct and we certainly support it, but there are issues that we need to discuss,’ he added.
