In the Kharkiv region, a private air defense unit shot down a Shahed jet drone for the first time; the drone was traveling at a speed of over 400 km/h. This is the first recorded instance of intercepting a target of this type as part of the project to develop a multi-layered air defense system.

This was reported by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

“The enemy is scaling up the use of jet drones—which are faster and more difficult to intercept. In accordance with the President’s directive, we are systematically building a multi-layered air defense system and strengthening our airspace defense,” the statement reads.

One of the elements of the multi-layered air defense system is private groups that reinforce the protection of critical infrastructure and are integrated into the Air Force’s unified command system.

Currently, such groups are being formed at 19 enterprises. The next stage involves scaling up the project to enhance the effectiveness of countering air threats.
