On Wednesday evening, residents of the Russian cities of Murmansk and Severomorsk reported two powerful explosions that allegedly occurred near the main naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet.
The incident occurred at around 17:30, and a video of the explosion was later posted on social media.
The Norwegian edition of The Barents Observer notes that important military facilities are located near the site of the explosions: the Severomorsk-1 military airfield, where fighters, bombers and Ka-27 helicopters are based, a weapons depot, as well as air defense systems and electronic warfare installations.
According to estimates, the nature of the explosion in the video indicates a possible detonation of a significant amount of ammunition.
