The Polish army is verifying information about the possible use of the “Oreshnik” missile by Russia during the attack on Lviv region. The flight of the missile was tracked by Polish airspace monitoring systems, and ground-based air defense systems were put on alert.

This was reported by RMF FM.

According to the publication, there are many indications that Russian troops have used the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile for the second time since the start of the full-scale war. According to Ukrainian media reports, the strike was carried out several dozen kilometers from the Polish border.

Suspicions about the use of Oreshnik are based, in particular, on warnings from the Ukrainian side about the threat of such missiles. During the Russian attack, Kyiv also passed on information to Poland about the launch of the Oreshnik missile.

In addition, the missile’s flight was tracked by Polish airspace control systems. According to information received by the Polish army, during the night attack, Russia used about 20 cruise missiles and about 30 ballistic missiles, including one that could have been hypersonic. It was this missile that struck the Lviv region.

In connection with the attack, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces put ground-based air defense systems on alert, including a Polish Patriot battery and several Dutch systems located near Rzeszów. Fighter jets were not scrambled, as they would have been ineffective in intercepting a modern hypersonic missile.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia attacked the country’s territory with a total of 278 airborne weapons, including a medium-range ballistic missile launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region. The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, announced the use of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile during the attack on Ukraine.
