Poland starts building a line of fortifications on the border with Russia

Poland has started building a line of defensive fortifications on the border with Russia as part of the “Eastern Shield” program.

This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“The construction of the “Eastern Shield” has begun. The first works near the border with Russia,” – wrote Tusk in X.

It is planned to complete the work by 2028.

According to Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, the “Eastern Shield” national deterrence and defense program is the largest operation to strengthen Poland’s eastern border and NATO’s eastern flank since 1945.

RMF24 writes that the program, for which the government has announced an allocation of 10 billion zlotys ($2.6 billion), involves, among other things, the construction of fortifications and dikes along the eastern border.
