        Over two thousand flights cancelled and delayed at Russian airports in two days

        The transport collapse at Russian airports, which began on the night of 5 July due to drone attacks, affected over two thousand flights by the morning of 7 July.

        According to Rosaviatsiya, between 5 and 7 July, airlines cancelled 485 flights, 88 flights were diverted to alternate airports, and 1,900 flights were delayed on departure and arrival. Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport, and Nizhny Novgorod’s Chkalov (Strigino) Airport were hit hardest.

        According to the agency, airlines issued 43,000 forced ticket refunds in two days, and 94,000 people were accommodated in hotels.

        According to experts quoted by Kommersant, the numerous disruptions to flight schedules at Russian airports could cost airlines tens of billions of rubles.

        In the first 24 hours alone, on 5 July, the transport collapse at three airports could have cost airlines at least 3.9-5.9 billion roubles, two major airlines told the newspaper. According to Dmitry Datsykov, an expert at Expo UAV, the additional costs incurred by airlines across the country per day could reach an average of 20 billion rubles.
