A new underground school has been opened in the Osnovyansky district of Kharkiv – the third one. The educational institution was built for almost 400 children who live far from the city centre and the subway.

        This was reported by Ukrinform.

Construction began last year and cost approximately UAH 30 million. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the decision to open the school was made after a meeting with local residents.

‘Today we are opening another underground school. It is a small one. Why here, because this is a very remote area from the city centre, far from the metro. I was here in the summer of 2024 to meet with parents and teachers, and we agreed that we would build a school. It is designed for 377 pupils, which is almost 90% of the needs of this neighbourhood,’ said Terekhov.

In total, Kharkiv is home to about 60,000 school-age children. Construction of three more underground schools is underway and is scheduled to open in September. All facilities are financed from the city budget.
