On November 21, the Lithuanian Seimas supported the appointment of Gintautas Palutskas as Prime Minister.
This is reported by LRT.
Palutskas’ candidacy was voted in favor by 88 deputies, 34 were against, and six abstained.
After his confirmation, Palutskas is to present the government formed and approved by the president, as well as submit a program of the Cabinet of Ministers’ activities to the parliament. This must be done within 15 days of his appointment.
After the vote, Palutskas expressed his gratitude, calling the event a “celebration of democracy.”
“There is still an echo of pre-election disputes in our discussions. I hope they will soon subside and we will focus on real issues,” he said.
Earlier, Palutskas and his party, the Lithuanian Social Democrats, were criticized for forming a coalition with the Zorya Nemanu party, whose leader is accused of anti-Semitism.
