Oleksandr Merezhko, MP from the Servant of the People party and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy, has nominated Donald Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
This is stated in Merezhko’s letter to the Nobel Committee, which was reviewed by the Kyiv Independent.
In his letter, Merezhko noted Trump’s potential to promote a “just, comprehensive and sustainable peace” based on the UN Charter and the principles of international law. He expressed hope that the former US president would help stop the war and take care of preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Merezhko also emphasized that it was during Trump’s presidency that the foundation of the international coalition in support of Ukraine was laid, including leadership in supplying weapons to fight Russia’s aggression.
