At least 32 dolphins were killed in the accident that occurred on December 15 in the Kerch Strait involving two Russian tankers. This was reported by the Russian scientific and ecological center for the rescue of dolphins “Delphi”.
“Judging by the condition of the bodies, most likely, most of these cetaceans died in the first 10 days after the disaster. And now they continue to be carried away by the sea. The victims were mainly Azov seals, which have always been the most vulnerable cetaceans,” the center said in a statement.
As reported, in the morning, on December 15, two Russian ships, Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239, began to sink near the Kerch Strait.
Greenpeace warns that the spill could have serious consequences for the region’s ecology.
