A rescue operation is underway in the Kyiv region following a Russian missile strike. According to preliminary information, six people were killed and dozens more were injured.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this.
He said all necessary emergency services were working at the site. Rescuers were continuing to establish the full circumstances of the attack and determine the fate of people who may have been in the affected area.
“As of now, dozens of people are known to have been injured. Unfortunately, six people are also known to have been killed,” Zelenskyy said.
Volunteer and former adviser to ex-Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Serhii Sternenko, citing Borovyk, the founder of defence manufacturer First Contact and a combat veteran, said Russia may have struck a military testing ground where a weapons exhibition was being held.
According to him, the attack caused fatalities and destruction. Sternenko suggested that the report may concern today’s ballistic missile strike on the Kyiv region. There has been no official confirmation of this information so far.
Zelenskyy calls on partners to provide Patriot missiles
The president also reported the consequences of Russian aerial bomb strikes on Sloviansk. Five people were killed and nine others were injured. Residential buildings, a consulate building and vehicles were damaged.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russia must be held accountable for attacks on people and said the protection of Ukrainian cities also depends heavily on assistance from international partners.
“Missiles for Patriot systems are the number one priority,” the president said.
