Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh finished second at the Diamond League meeting in London. She cleared 2.01 metres, her best outdoor result of the summer season.

        Suspilne Sport reported this.

Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers won the competition after also clearing 2.01 metres but finishing ahead of the Ukrainian on countback.

Mahuchikh began the competition at 1.93 metres, clearing the height on her second attempt. She also needed two attempts to clear 1.96 metres.

At 1.99 metres, Olyslagers was the only athlete to clear the bar on her first attempt. Mahuchikh succeeded on her second attempt, which ultimately decided the winner.

The Ukrainian and Australian continued their battle for first place at 2.01 metres. Both athletes cleared the height on their third attempts.

The bar was then raised to 2.03 metres, the world-leading mark for the season that Mahuchikh set in January at the Demianiuk Memorial in Lviv. Neither athlete managed to clear it.

Another Australian, Eleanor Patterson, finished third with a result of 1.96 metres.

The London event was Mahuchikh’s fourth competition of the summer season and her second Diamond League appearance. She had previously won in Rabat with a clearance of 1.97 metres.

Olympic bronze medallist Iryna Herashchenko was also due to compete in London but missed the event because of visa-processing problems.

Olyslagers recorded her 12th head-to-head victory over Mahuchikh. However, the Ukrainian still leads their overall rivalry with 28 wins.
