Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the gold medal at the first-ever World Athletics Absolute Championships. In the final in Budapest, she was the only competitor to clear a height of 1.99 meters.

Eight athletes competed in the women’s high jump final, including three Ukrainians — Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Iryna Herashchenko and Yuliia Levchenko.
Mahuchikh cleared 1.99 meters on her second attempt. None of the other competitors managed to reach that height.
Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers won the silver medal with a result of 1.95 meters. The bronze medal was shared by Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Serbia’s Angelina Topic, who both cleared 1.91 meters on their first attempts.
After securing the victory, Mahuchikh attempted to clear 2.04 meters, but the height remained beyond her reach.
Iryna Herashchenko finished fifth with a result of 1.91 meters, while Yuliia Levchenko took sixth place after clearing 1.86 meters.
For winning the Absolute World Championships, Mahuchikh will receive $150,000 in prize money. The tournament’s total prize fund amounts to $10 million.
