Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh has won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. The final of the women’s competition took place on the last day of the tournament and was the final start for the Ukrainian team.

In the final, two Ukrainians competed for medals – Maguchikh and Kateryna Tabashnyk, for whom it was her debut World Championships of this level.

Maguchikh started the competition with a height of 1.88 meters and missed 1.92 meters. Tabashnyk overcame 1.89 m only on her third attempt, but was unable to take the next height of 1.92 m, finishing in ninth place.

The fate of the medals was decided at 1.95m, which Maguchikh cleared on the first attempt, as did her main rivals, the Australians Nicola Olislagers and Eleanor Patterson. Serbian Angelina Topic cleared this height only on her second attempt.

At a height of 1.97 m, the Ukrainian failed at the first attempt and then moved her attempt to 1.99 m, but did not overcome this bar either. The result of 1.95 m brought Maguchikh the bronze medal – she beat Topic due to fewer failed attempts.

Nicola Olislagers became the champion for the second time in a row, beating Patterson due to better statistics of attempts at 1.99 m, although neither of them cleared the bar.

This medal was another achievement for Maguchikh, who previously won silver at the 2024 World Indoor Championships and is the current European indoor champion.
