Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has responded to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement about its refusal to take Ukrainian prisoners of war.
‘Recently, the Russian side stated that Ukraine ‘does not give consent’ to take certain of its prisoners of war. That is why, I appeal to the human rights ombudsman in the Russian Federation to have these lists with Ukrainian citizens provided to me!’ – Lubinets wrote in response to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement.
On the eve of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing that Ukraine refuses to accept many of its citizens from Russian captivity. In particular, Zakharova claimed that Russia had offered 939 prisoners of war for exchange this year, but Kiev had ‘taken’, as she put it, only 279.
Lubinets wrote that ‘Ukraine is always ready to accept all lists and all our citizens’ and added that Ukraine is ‘always ready to conduct POW exchanges.’
