Law enforcers detain ex-deputy head of the High Commercial Court Yemelianov

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation have detained a former deputy chairman of the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine suspected of organizing a bribery scheme.

The SBI press service does not disclose the name of the suspect, but according to media reports, it is Artur Emelyanov.

The investigation found that the former judge, who now works as a lawyer, was a member of a criminal organization consisting of lawyers, insolvency officers and other court employees. In exchange for bribes, they made “necessary” decisions in business cases.

The organizer of the scheme, also a former high-ranking official of the High Commercial Court, illegally interfered in the distribution of cases and transferred them to “his” judges.

The Bureau adds that the work on identifying and establishing all those involved in the activities of this group is ongoing.

Yemelianov is suspected of participating in the organization and receiving bribes under Part 1 of Article 255 and Part 2 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provide for up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The court was sent a motion to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.
