Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the capital was preparing for winter and working to ensure the stable operation of heating, water and electricity systems. In the comments under his post, some users reacted critically, describing disruptions to power, water supplies and public transport.
Vitali Klitschko published the post on Facebook after meeting representatives of the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania.
“I told them how the capital is preparing for winter. It is working to ensure the stable operation of heating, water and electricity supply systems,” the mayor said.
According to Klitschko, Kyiv needs additional assistance from international partners, including backup power systems and generators for critical infrastructure.
In the comments, residents began asking how the city’s stated preparations corresponded with the current disruptions. One user wrote that the metro had stopped because of a voltage drop and asked whether this was the level of winter preparedness previously announced by the city.
Users also complained about prolonged water and power outages in some districts.
“Mr Klitschko, is this what you call Kyiv’s preparation for winter?! For the third day, there has been almost no water in the Sviatoshynskyi district. The power is being switched off and the elevators are not working,” one user wrote.
Comments also raised questions about backup power for water supply, sewerage and heating facilities, while some users called on the city authorities to provide more generators.
Some commenters directly called on Klitschko to step down.
“Mayor, maybe it is time to resign? If you cannot solve or prevent the problems Kyiv residents are facing, please leave office,” one user wrote.
Other users described the situation in the capital as a collapse. One commenter wrote: “The city is collapsing after your 12 years of disgraceful management.”
