Ukraine has signed a contract with Germany for the supply of 600 missiles for air defense systems. A decision from the United States on a license to produce missiles for Patriot systems in Europe is also expected.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with TSN.
According to the head of state, the current U.S. production capacity is about 700 missiles per year. He noted that the American side had transferred production licenses to Germany, where manufacturing of the relevant products has already begun.
“We have already signed a contract with them for a significant amount, for 600 missiles. It is a good contract. But, of course, it is a lengthy process,” Zelenskyy said.
The president also stated that European and American companies working with Patriot systems support the idea of producing missiles for these systems in Europe. At the same time, launching such production requires the personal approval of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelenskyy said that during the G7 summit he discussed the issue of obtaining licenses for the production of air defense systems and missiles with Trump. After the meeting, the Ukrainian president said that the U.S. leader had responded positively to the issue.
At the same time, the head of state stressed the need to find a more affordable European alternative to countering ballistic missiles.
