On January 22, the French Navy stopped the oil tanker Grinch, which was sailing from Russia, in the Mediterranean Sea. The ship, which is under international sanctions, is also suspected of flying a false flag.

According to the French Armed Forces, the Navy conducted an operation to check the oil tanker’s flag.

“At the request of the prosecutor, the ship was redirected under the escort of the French Navy for further inspection. The operation was carried out in cooperation with allies, in particular with British defense structures, within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (Article 110),” the statement said.
