Today, October 1, Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on the city of Slavutych in the Kyiv region. As a result of the strike on an energy facility, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was left without power.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
“Due to Russian shelling of energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region in the city of Slavutych, an emergency situation arose at the facilities of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant,” the statement said.
As a result of power surges, the New Safe Confinement, a key facility that isolates the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and prevents the release of radioactive materials into the environment, was left without power.
Specialists are currently working to restore power supply.
