A man who tried to blow up a police unit was detained in Kyiv. On the instructions of Russian special services, he installed an explosive device in a rented apartment in Pechersk and staged a case of domestic violence to lure the police.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

According to the information, the police received a call about a woman being beaten by her husband. In a telephone conversation, the “victim” reported that she had locked herself in the bathroom, leaving the apartment door open. After the law enforcement officers entered the apartment, they found an explosive device and evacuated in time.

The attacker was detained at home in the Kyiv region. He was a 43-year-old man with a criminal record, recruited by Russian special services via messenger. He rented an apartment, installed CCTV cameras, and prepared explosives to lure the police into a trap. The call to the police was made by another person posing as his wife.

The man has now been served a notice of suspicion of a terrorist act under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
