A clear majority of Ukrainians — 70% — do not believe that the current negotiations will lead to lasting peace in Ukraine. These are the findings of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology between February 12 and 24, 2026.

Twenty-five percent of respondents said they believe the talks could result in lasting peace, while 5% were undecided. Compared with mid-January 2026, there have been no changes in responses.

The survey was conducted using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers across all regions of Ukraine under government control. A total of 2,004 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed.

KIIS noted that in January 2026 respondents were also asked an open-ended question about why they did not believe in the success of negotiations. At that time, most of those who expressed skepticism cited Russia’s actions and position as the main reason.

The institute stated that despite wartime conditions, the results remain highly representative and allow for a reliable assessment of public sentiment.
