President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia’s energy sector is a legitimate target because it finances the war against Ukraine. According to him, revenues from energy sales are directly used to produce weapons.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine should not distinguish between Russian military and energy targets, as Russia’s energy sector directly supports the war effort. He stated that Russia sells oil, earns money, and uses those funds to manufacture weapons that kill Ukrainians.
The president emphasized that Ukraine has two options: either to build its own weapons and strike Russia’s military capabilities, or to hit the source of the funds that fuel Russia’s war machine. That source, he said, is Russia’s energy sector.
Zelenskyy stressed that this is why Russia’s energy facilities are considered legitimate targets. He added that no other country has previously acted so decisively against the financial sources used by Russia to wage war.
The president also noted that these actions are a response to aggression and are aimed at protecting Ukrainians from further attacks.
