During a combined attack on November 7, Russia launched 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles, with all missiles targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region. The main target was energy infrastructure, particularly substations connecting the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to the capital and central regions of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the attack.
According to the president, Russian forces struck Kyiv and 12 other regions of Ukraine. Nine people were injured in the attack, including one child.
The capital is facing severe disruptions to electricity, heating and water supplies. Residential buildings and the Northern Bridge were damaged, while a kindergarten was partially destroyed.
In Kyiv region, Russian forces targeted substations connecting the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants to Kyiv and central parts of the country.
Electrical substations were also damaged in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Repair and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected regions wherever security conditions allow.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s critical infrastructure amid preparations for trilateral negotiations.
“Russia is preparing for trilateral talks by launching ballistic missiles at Ukraine’s critical infrastructure,” the president said.
He also noted that Moscow is attempting to deprive not only Kyiv but the entire country of electricity, making stronger international support essential for Ukraine.
In particular, Zelenskyy called on the United States to increase bilateral assistance and urged Congress to devote greater attention to Ukraine.
The president emphasized the need to keep support for Ukraine among US foreign policy priorities, maintain bipartisan unity on security issues and strengthen sanctions pressure on Vladimir Putin.
According to Zelenskyy, US determination and consistency in supporting Ukraine are crucial to bringing peace closer.
