President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered the development of a special sanctions operation designed to significantly restrict the capabilities of Russia’s military industry. The measures are expected to target specific companies and technological sectors.
Zelenskyy held a coordination meeting on all types of Ukrainian sanctions imposed on Russia over its war. The head of state announced this on Facebook.
According to the president, the main objective is to prevent Russia from having time to adapt to restrictions that have already been introduced.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russian missiles, drones and most other types of weapons contain critical foreign-made components.
“We see that every Russian missile, every drone and most other types of Russian weapons contain critical components from other countries, without which such weapons simply would not exist,” the president said.
The meeting also addressed Russia’s use of foreign machine tools and technologies that Moscow, according to Zelenskyy, is unable to develop independently because it is generations behind technologically.
The president called for greater pressure to restrict the aggressor state’s links with the rest of the world and cut off the Russian military-industrial complex’s access to essential technologies.
“I instructed officials to prepare a clear plan for a special sanctions operation that should significantly restrict Russia’s military industry — targeting specific companies in the areas we have identified,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, every participant in the meeting received specific tasks. The president said he expected them to be carried out in full.
