Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the government to prepare a program offering free travel on Kyiv’s surface public transport and ensure the capital has a sufficient reserve of buses. The measures are being developed in case of disruptions to metro services or problems with bridges across the Dnipro River.

Zelenskyy announced this following a coordination meeting.

According to the president, the meeting included a separate discussion of Kyiv’s transport situation and possible ways to ensure the stable operation of public transport.

The prime minister, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and the interior minister presented alternative transport plans for the capital.

Officials are currently assessing the number of vehicles needed and possible changes to traffic arrangements in certain parts of Kyiv.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the government must prepare specific measures to ensure uninterrupted and affordable surface public transport services in the event of metro disruptions or problems with bridges across the Dnipro River.

“I instructed the prime minister to present a program for free travel on urban surface public transport and a sufficient reserve of buses for Kyiv,” the president said.

The meeting also focused on the situation in the Dnipropetrovsk region following Russian strikes over the past 24 hours.

According to Zelenskyy, restoration work is ongoing in Dnipro, Pavlohrad, Kamianske, and other cities and communities across the region.

At the peak of the outages, more than 600,000 electricity customers were without power, including households, businesses, and critical infrastructure facilities.

Electricity supplies are now being gradually restored.

The meeting also included reports on the situation in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and other frontline communities.

In addition, the president assigned tasks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic team of the Office of the President ahead of international events scheduled for the coming weeks.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is preparing new energy support packages and additional financial instruments to assist Ukrainians throughout the winter.
