Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Eisuke Mori, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan. The two discussed energy support for Ukraine ahead of winter, cooperation in defense and energy, and at the end of the meeting Zelenskyy awarded Mori the Order of Merit, First Class.
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy and Mori discussed energy support for Ukraine ahead of the winter season, as well as cooperation in defense and energy. Zelenskyy thanked Japan for its consistent support for Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“We highly value the humanitarian, energy and political support. Since its G7 presidency, Japan has consistently supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, has always spoken in support, and I want to thank you and your people for that,” the president said.
He also said that Japan had consistently condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Russian leader’s visit to the Kuril Islands.
“In this regard, we certainly support Japan, your sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Zelenskyy said.
Eisuke Mori thanked Ukraine for supporting Japan’s territorial integrity and assured that Tokyo would continue to support Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. The speaker recalled that in 2022 the Japanese parliament adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s attempts to violate Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
“That is why we came here, to Ukraine, to once again demonstrate our position as the Japanese parliament: that all parties, regardless of their politics, support Ukraine and will continue to support Ukraine,” Mori stressed.
Zelenskyy separately noted Japan’s decision on non-lethal defense assistance, including its participation in the PURL program. The president also invited Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to visit Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting, the president awarded the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan the Order of Merit, First Class.
