In his video address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that last night Ukrainian defence forces destroyed 97 Russian drones.

‘First of all, I am grateful to our defenders of the sky. Every night now is a large-scale Russian drone attack. About a hundred ‘shaheds’ each time. A lot of damage. This morning alone, the number of drones shot down was 97 overnight. Mobile fire groups, electronic warfare, air defence units – thank you,’ Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, the President stressed that the protection of the sky needs to be more effective, and Ukraine continues to work with partners to strengthen air defence: ‘We need more air defence systems, more appropriate ammunition to shoot down drones. We are talking about this with all partners.’

Zelenskyy also reported on the tragic consequences of the night attack: three people were killed in Kyiv, including a father and his five-year-old daughter. In addition, a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia the day before had claimed the lives of an entire family – mother, father and child.

The President expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called on partners to increase pressure on Russia to stop the terror.
