President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the end of the war in Ukraine concerns all of Europe, not just individual countries. Accordingly, he said, European leaders must be involved in the process of peaceful settlement.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said about this in his evening address on August 7.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine is a war in Europe and against Europe. All decisions that will be made to end this war and to guarantee security truly concern all of Europe, not just one entity. Therefore, the voice of Europe must influence the processes,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, Ukraine is coordinating positions with European partners not only at a bilateral level but also in a broader format.
“We are negotiating with our European leaders both regarding our conversations and our meetings to align all positions, and also regarding the work of each of us with other leaders to ensure Europe’s positions are protected. We are planning some meetings on the continent,” the address states.
Zelenskyy also reported on discussions of various formats for future negotiations regarding the cessation of hostilities.
“The format of meetings, meetings of leaders—includes, in particular, a trilateral format. And we talked about this in detail yesterday—about several bilateral formats, about a trilateral format. About all possibilities,” the president noted.
Additionally, Zelenskyy announced another conversation between Ukraine’s security advisors, those from other European countries, and a U.S. representative, scheduled to take place today. “All details will be discussed. We need truly coordinated and maximally elaborated approaches in diplomacy,” the Ukrainian leader added.
