President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he is canceling some of the planned events during his visit to South Africa and will immediately return to Ukraine after meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The reason was the massive missile and drone attacks by the Russian Federation.

This was announced by Volodymyr Zelenskyy on April 24.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has been adhering to the full ceasefire proposed by the United States for 44 days, while Russia continues to strike. The President noted that during the latest attack, the aggressor used about 70 missiles, including ballistic missiles, and almost 150 attack drones.

More than 80 people were injured in the shelling across the country, eight of them in Kyiv. Rescue operations are underway.

The Head of State also said that he had instructed the Minister of Defense to urgently contact partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense system. In addition, he intends to inform President Ramaphosa about the security situation and the need to intensify international diplomatic efforts, particularly in the return of prisoners and abducted Ukrainian children.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will remain in South Africa to hold all scheduled meetings and inform local political and public figures.
