        Zelenskyy awards Hero City status to 16 additional Ukrainian towns

        On Ukraine’s Defenders Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that 16 additional towns have been granted the honorary title of “Hero City” for their crucial role in resisting Russia’s invasion. He made the announcement in his address on October 1.

        According to Zelenskyy, these are cities that “stood in defense of all of Ukraine and saved thousands of lives.”

        The newly recognized Hero Cities are:

        • Dnipropetrovsk region: Pavlohrad, Nikopol, Marhanets;
        • Donetsk region: Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Pokrovsk, Sloviansk;
        • Zaporizhzhia region: Huliaipole, Orikhiv;
        • Mykolaiv region: Voznesensk, Bashtanka;
        • Sumy region: Sumy, Trostianets;
        • Kharkiv region: Kupiansk;
        • Khmelnytskyi region: Starokostiantyniv.

        “I am proud of you! It is an honor to represent such a nation, such cities and communities, and such brave people,” Zelenskyy said.
