Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he will submit a bill to the Verkhovna Rada that will strengthen the independence of anti-corruption bodies and guarantee the inevitability of punishment. The document will be the result of coordinated actions by all law enforcement agencies and will be part of the state’s transformation strategy.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address on July 23.

“We have agreed that the heads of institutions will jointly propose an action plan, a plan of specific steps that can strengthen the rule of law in Ukraine. Of course, everyone has heard what people are saying these days — on social media, to each other, on the streets. All this is not in vain. We have analyzed all the concerns, all the aspects of what needs to be changed and what needs to be activated,” the president said.

Zelenskyy noted that the new bill he will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will ensure the strength of the rule of law.

“There will be no Russian influence or interference in the activities of law enforcement agencies, and — very importantly — all norms for the independence of anti-corruption institutions will be in place,” Zelenskyy said.

The president expects proposals from the heads of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, as well as from the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, on effective norms that will ensure the effectiveness of the reform. The relevant bill will be submitted as a presidential bill and will be implemented as part of the overall strategy for the transformation of the state.

“The most important thing remains – not to lose the unity of the country, end the war, stop this Russian evil and ensure Ukraine a decent peace, and exactly as we all see it – a full-fledged part of Europe,” Zelenskyy summed up.
