President Volodymyr Zelensky has shared an operational update from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi as of 6:00 a.m. on April 20. Despite Russia’s declaration of an “Easter truce,” enemy combat activity continues.
According to the report, there have already been 59 shellings and five assault actions by Russian units across various frontline sectors. In the area of responsibility of the “Starobilsk” Operational-Tactical Group (OTG), one combat clash was recorded. Three more clashes occurred in the “Donetsk” OTG area (Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions). On the Zaporizhzhia axis, fighting was reported near Stepove. Russian forces also actively used FPV drones.
In Russia’s Kursk region, artillery shelling and drone usage were observed.
“Our soldiers are responding everywhere in the way the enemy deserves under the specific combat circumstances. Ukraine will continue to act in a mirrored manner,” Zelensky stated.
The President added that between 6:00 p.m. yesterday and midnight today, Russian forces carried out 387 shellings and 19 assault attempts, as well as 290 drone deployments.
“As of Easter morning, we can say that the Russian army is trying to create a general impression of a ceasefire but still carries out localized attempts to advance and inflict damage on Ukraine,” Zelensky noted.
He emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to the initiative of a full ceasefire and is ready to support its extension for another 30 days after midnight on April 20.
