Volunteers have planted a Christmas tree in the centre of Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast. The New Year tree is decorated with photos of volunteers who died while evacuating people from hot spots.

This was reported by journalist Oleksandr Kachura.

‘This is not a festive flash mob. Instead of toys, there are photos of deceased volunteers who were involved in evacuations in hot spots in Donetsk Oblast until the very end and died without seeing this New Year with their families and a Christmas tree,’ Kachura wrote.

Instead of tinsel, a sticker saying ‘evacuation’ was attached to the Christmas tree. Such inscriptions can be found on every volunteer vehicle

‘But the occupiers don’t care about any rules or conventions, so every time the list of dead volunteers grows, as does the list of dead civilians,’ the report says.

The journalist notes that it would probably have been possible to save the lives of the volunteers if the residents of the shelled settlements had taken their own safety into account and evacuated in time, rather than at the last moment, when it was almost impossible to enter the settlement.
